Fall 2004
October 7, 2004 Speaker: Professor Allen Blaer Talk Title: Columbia's Physics program and the Nobel Prize in Physics Abstract: Professor Blaer will introduce the physics program at Columbia to prospective physics majors and go on to have a discussion about the Nobel Prize in Physics.
September 23, 2004 Speaker: Professor Brian Cole Talk Title: High Energy Nuclear Physics Being Studied with the RHIC Abstract: Professor Cole will be speaking about the research taking place at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Laboratory. In particular, his talk will focus on the study of nuclear matter at extreme temperatures and densities. One of the goals of this research is experimental manifestation of the QCD phase transition from ordinary hadronic matter to a form of matter in which quarks and gluons become locally deconfined.
